Stage Director

Sarah Vandervelde (Oliver)

Sarah is extending her directing portfolio by once again agreeing to direct Christchurch Gilbert & Sullivan’s annual production Ruddigore. Now into her third year of directing the full show for the society once again it has been a fun few months. Working alongside Ieuan again and with the addition of Lucy  as choreographer once again we have strived to bring out the delightful comedy that is so apparent in all G&S operettas whilst hopefully also appealing to a modern audience.

Sarah is no novice to directing: her past credits include Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe,  Blitz, South Pacific,  Slipper and the  Rose, Wizard of  Oz, plus numerous pantomimes and  concerts. Sarah teaches drama for Stagecoach  Ringwood, providing children with the opportunity to sit LAMDA exams on a one to one basis in addition to the class based teaching. This is a particular passion of Sarah’s,  enabling youngsters to build life skills based around the arts.

Sarah is no stranger to treading the boards herself, joining the female chorus this year largely to be able to sing one of her favourite choruses from the show, (we won’t say which one so as not to spoil your enjoyment!) In addition Sarah is an active member of KCA Players, Pelhams in Kinson, currently in rehearsal for their  November production of The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery, a hilarious farce – why not pop along?

Like so many societies we have joined the “we need more men!” brigade and we are eternally grateful to Brian Morgan and Richard Haynes who, despite many other commitments, agreed to join us within the last four weeks to help boost the male chorus. Thank you to both from all of us.

All that remains is to say sit back and let your imagination lead you through the secrets, seductions and sorcery that can only be attributed with, in Sarah’s opinion, one of the best G&S operettas, that of the mysterious  RUDDIGORE!
